Iceberg Shapes

Tabular

Flat-topped iceberg with vertical sides. Usually very stable and east to tow. However, in mass they are amount the largest icebergs.

Pinnacle

Large central spine or pyramid, or one or more spines dominating the shape. Usually fairly easy to tow, they are one of the most picturesque types of icebergs.

Drydock

Eroded such that a large U-shaped slot is formed with twin columns or pinnacles. Slots extend into the or close to it. They can present problems for towing depending on their size.

Wedge

As its name indicates, it has a wedge shape with one side usually at sea level. This makes it a very difficult iceberg to keep a tow line attached.

Dome

Smooth rounded iceberg. Extremely difficult iceberg to tow.

Blocky

A block-like shaped, tall iceberg with vertical sides, similar to a tabular, but much higher.
