1.  Fares:
  • All PAL fares are in Canadian dollars. Fares and schedules are subject to change without notice.
  • PAL fares are subject to inventory allocation.
  • PAL requires advance booking for all fares except full fare, medical and child fares. These seats can be booked on the day of travel.
  • Regular Fares have no restrictions, are refundable and are valid for 1 year from date of issue.
  • Sale Fares(H7, B1, Q3, Q3OW, L7, Q7) are non-refundable, non-transferable, a $75.00 change fee applies and advanced booking is required.
 


2. Online Bookings:
  • All bookings made online are quoted the lowest fare for the dates selected. These tickets may be a sale fare, please check your ticket or call 1-800-563-2800 to verify your fare class.
  • Sale Fares(H7, B1, Q3, Q3OW, L7, Q7) are non-refundable, non-transferable, a $75.00 change fee applies and advanced booking is required.
  • Your seat(s) will be held while your credit card is processed, if your credit card is invalid or if you have not provided sufficient and correct contact information we will be unable to process your booking and your booking will be cancelled. You will be notified of the cancellation if the correct contact information is provided.
 


3. Form of Payment:
  • PAL accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club. Cash and debit are accepted at the airport.
 


4. Check-in:
  • For all PAL flights check-in will be 1 hour prior to scheduled departure time.
  • PAL cut off time is 30 minutes prior to departure time. Boarding will be denied and the seat sold.

Fly Smart, Fly Secure

Whether you're travelling inside Canada or beyond its borders; whether you're flying on business or on vacation, preparation is your ticket to a smoother trip.

This brochure contains a number of important facts - and some helpful tips - about what to expect when going through airport security, how to help avoid unnecessary delays, and how to contribute to the safety of all travellers. So take a few moments to discover how you can travel smart.

What You Need to Know
Packing requirements:

  • Ensure there are no sharp objects like scissors in your carry-on bag. Pack them in your checked luggage instead.
  • Make sure electronic devices such as cell phones, laptop computers, and portable or electronic games are charged and ready to be turned on for inspection. You will not be allowed to take them on board unless they are functioning.
  • Pack prescription medication in its original labelled container. Syringes or needles for personal medical use must have the needle guard in place and also be accompanied by the medication in its original labelled container.
  • Never wrap or package gifts. Security personnel may need to inspect them.
  • Pack carefully. Be aware that any substances capable of posing risks to health, safety, property or the environment when transported, such as cleaning solvents, aerosols or other common items, are not permitted on board an aircraft.
  • Pack your own bags; never let someone else do it.

Common Prohibited Items
Items not allowed on board an aircraft in carry-on luggage include:

  • Knives and knife-like objects such as letter openers, scissors, and straight razors;
  • Firearms (contact Transport Canada or your airline for more information on the proper procedures for transporting firearms such as hunting rifles);
  • Sporting equipment such as baseball and softball bats, golf clubs, pool cues, ski poles, hockey sticks, or darts;
  • Restraining devices such as handcuffs; and
  • Power tools.

Items That May be Permitted
Some items permitted in your carry-on luggage may be subject to inspection. These include

  • Walking canes and umbrellas (inspected to ensure prohibited items are not concealed);
  • Nail clippers; Non-metal nail files;
  • Disposable razors;
  • Tweezers; and,
  • Eyelash curlers.

Identification requirements

  • Bring an appropriate piece of government-issued photo ID with you, such as a driver's license for domestic travel or a passport for international travel. Keep your ID handy and accessible. You may be required to show it at the check-in counter and before boarding your flight.

International travellers

  • Bring a valid passport (valid six months after you return). Be aware that many countries have additional passport or visa requirements. Have all of your documentation ready well in advance of your trip. Contact the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) for more information. See page 8 for contact list.
  • Other identification may be required when you are travelling internationally. Contact DFAIT for more details.
  • If you are travelling with children, contact the embassy or consulate of all countries you will be visiting to inquire about entry requirements. Immigration authorities in most countries are becoming increasingly vigilant when children are crossing international borders. Whether travelling alone or accompanied by an adult, each child travelling abroad must have a valid passport and may also require supporting documentation. DFAIT has more information.

Airport Requirements

  • Do not joke about hijackings or bombings. It is against the law.
  • Never leave your bags unattended, and keep your eyes on your luggage at all times.
  • Never accept parcels or letters from strangers for delivery to persons at your point of destination. Never carry anything onto a plane for anyone else.

Helpful Tips - Getting Ready

  • Label your luggage. Do not use your home address or business title. Luggage tags with flaps that hide your name and address are a smart idea. These steps will help protect your anonymity and thwart would-be thieves.
  • Make an inventory of luggage contents and place it in your ticket jacket.
  • Pack lightly. Travel with as little baggage as possible. Check with your airline to confirm how much you can bring.
  • Limit your carry-on baggage. If you don't think you're going to need it on the flight, pack it in your checked baggage.
  • Make photocopies of your photo ID and your credit cards. Leave a copy with a trusted relative or friend at home.
  • Leave a copy of contact names and your itinerary both at home and at work.
  • Verify your reservation and check with the airline before you leave home to make sure that there haven't been any changes to the flight schedule.
  • Be aware of airport security procedures. Call or check the Web sites of the airports you are travelling from and to or speak to your airline.
  • Wear comfortable, practical and appropriate footwear (e.g., flat shoes), and wear appropriate clothing - sandals, t-shirts and shorts won't keep you warm if you have to exit the plane in the cold.
  • Arrive at the airport early. For international travel, make sure to arrive two to three hours before your scheduled departure time. Check with your airline to find out more about check-in time allowances.

At the Airport

  • Remove all metal from your pockets before you proceed to the pre-board screening point.
  • If you see an unattended or suspicious bag or package, report it to airport security at once.
  • Never give a thief an opportunity. Avoid carrying a bulky wallet or purse. Make sure your purse is closed at all times. Carry your cash in your front pockets where it is harder for a thief to access it.
  • Carry travel documents, credit cards, money, and medication on your person at all times. A money belt is ideal for this.

In Flight and Upon Arrival

  • Pay close attention to the safety briefings at the beginning of the flight and know the location of all exits.
  • Inform the crew of any unruly behaviour (commonly known as "air rage"). Examples of unruly behaviour include verbal abuse, physical assault, intimidating behaviour, disregard of smoking regulations, and intoxicated and disorderly conduct.
  • Follow the instructions of the crew at all times, and be courteous.
  • Although the causes of air rage are many, you can help prevent it by avoiding excessive alcohol consumption. Avoiding alcohol also helps you stay hydrated during your flight.
  • When it's time to collect your bags on arrival, do so promptly.
  • Be courteous of other travellers - particularly elderly persons or families with children. A little patience goes a long way toward making the process quick and easy for everyone.

6. Boarding Procedures:
  • PAL customers will receive seat assignment upon check-in, this will be done on a first come, first serve basis.
  • Pre-boarding will be done for unaccompanied minors, passengers with children or for passengers in need of assistance.
  • PAL has the right to deny boarding to anyone under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, or any person causing distress, damage or injury to any other passengers or crew.
 


7. Luggage:
  • Passengers must have name tags on all pieces of luggage.
  • Allowance: 2 pieces of luggage at 25lbs per piece. Total of 50lbs. per person.
 


8. Excess Baggage:
  • In terms of excess baggage or weight over 50lbs., the customer will be charged $1.50 per excess pound after 10lbs.
 


9. Damaged Baggage:
  • We are not liable for zippers/straps/wheels or damage caused from normal wear and tear.... if bag is damaged we will repair or replace depending on extent of damage.
 


10. Pets and Animals:
  • No pets or animals are allowed onboard, must ride in cargo hold.
  • There is a flat fee of $65.00 plus tax.
 


11. Unaccompanied Minors:
  • Must be 5-11 years of age.
  • Upon check-in the person escorting the child to the airport will have to show ID and fill out UM form with complete name/address and telephone numbers of person picking up the child at destination.
  • The person dropping child off at airport will have to stay with child until he/she boards the aircraft.
  • Passenger then will be in care of flight attendant until arrival at destination airport.
  • From aircraft, customer service agent will escort passenger to airport and find the person meeting the child, they will be asked for ID, if ID matches person meeting the child on UM form, child will be released into their custody.
  • Please note there is a $35.00 service fee plus tax for all UM Travel.
